2010 Silver Slipper Stakes Final Field

February 25th, 2010

This Saturday the esteemed Rosehill Gardens Racecourse will host the next big race meeting of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. The day features a plethora of thrilling events including the $200, 000 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m).

This year the Silver Slipper Stakes has attracted eleven elite two-year-olds, a number on their way to the prestigious $3.5million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes on April 3.

Heading the 2010 Silver Slipper field is the undefeated daughter of Snitzel, Chance Bye seeking the Golden Slipper ballot exemption that comes with a win in the Silver Slipper.

The classy filly trained by Michael Tubman has drawn wide for Saturday with barrier eight, but she has the speed and ability to overcome this less than ideal draw. Chance Bye needs the extra prizemoney a place in the Silver Slipper would provide her with if she is to qualify for the Golden Slipper.

Despite having earned over $340, 000 in her two impressive career victories, the money doesn’t count towards her Golden Slipper berth as the stakes came from Inglis sales restricted events.

Another top rated filly starting out wide in the Silver Slipper is last-start Magic Millions runner-up Ambers Waltz in barrier ten. The John O’Shea-trained daughter of Danehill Dancer has had an impressive career to date, winning one and placing second in the other two of her three race starts.

Proving popular with the punters is also the winner of the Breeders Plate Run For Wilson. The promising Shamardal colt trained by John Thompson has had only two career starts but looks a good chance to secure his second victory on Saturday after drawing ideally in barrier two.

Starting on the far outside in barrier 11 is the Clarry Conners-trained Georgette Silk. Coming off a last start victory in the Widden Stakes, the Flying Spur filly is another Golden Slipper hopeful.

Other promising youngsters in the Silver Slipper this year include the Gerald Ryan-trained Intertidal in the prized barrier one, Gai Waterhouse’s Zutara also drawn well in barrier three and Grahame Begg’s two runners Mafia Miss in seven and Military Blonde in nine.

The other major races of the day will be the $200, 000 Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (Race 6 – 3:55pm) and the $125, 000 Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes (Race 4 – 2:35pm).

The 2010 Franklins Supermarkets Silver Slipper Stakes is scheduled as the fifth race on the day’s super eight event programme and will jump at 3:15pm.
