Unbeaten filly Chance Bye maintained her perfect record and stormed further into Golden Slipper contention on Saturday when she coasted home to a stunning win in the $200, 000 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.
Trained by Michael Tubman, Chance Bye began as the hot favourite at $1.75 and stepped up to the plate defeating Magic Millions Classic runner-up Ambers Waltz ($12) by 1 ½ lengths in an all the way win, with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Zutara ($13) three quarters of a length back in third.
Chance Bye, daughter of boom sire Snitzel, has now saluted in all three of her race starts and Saturday’s Silver Slipper win boosted her career prizemoney to $437, 700. The victory also earned her a ballot exemption for the coveted $3.5 million Golden Slipper on April 3.
The story of Chance Bye and her gallant trainer has become one of the feel good stories of the season. Tubman went into debt to purchase Chance Bye as a yearling, the Kembla Grange trainer still having only two horses in preparation, and has beaten cancer twice.
A Golden Slipper win would be a dream outcome for the Tubman and Chance Bye’s jockey Kathy O’Hara, but the statistics are against them as no filly has ever won the Silver Slipper – Golden Slipper double.
Following their brilliant Silver Slipper victory, Chance Bye has now skyrocketed into favouritism at $6.50 for the 2010 Golden Slipper with SportsBet followed closely by Beneteau at $7.
The Golden Slipper will be Chance Bye’s next start as the filly has a five-week rest before her toughest test to date.
The other headline events held at Rosehill on Saturday were the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes where Monton claimed an upset victory, and the Millie Fox Stakes won by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Montana Flyer.
