2011 Silver Slipper Stakes Nominations

February 22nd, 2011

The Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival kicks into full gear this weekend when Rosehill Gardens hosts the 2011 Silver Slipper Stakes.

The $200,000 Group 2 race over 1100m  is a crucial race for punters trying to grab an early gauge on runners gearing up for the Golden Slipper on April 2nd.

Nominations are out for 2011 Silver Slipper with 16 horses hoping to get a crack at the title.

Undoubtedly the biggest name on the list is the unbeaten filly Satin Shoes. She is already third in the line of betting for the 2011 Golden Slipper at $10 so punters are certainly excited early in her career.

Trained by Clarry Conners, she’s had just the two starts but won them both in impressive style, including the $100,000 Widden Stakes at Randwick last start.

Her connections have made it clear they are chasing a Golden Slipper and with pedigree like 1995 winner Flying Spur she’s certainly looking good for this weekend.

There are plenty of other challengers though including the filly runner up to Satin Shoes in the Widden Stakes Elite Falls.

In addition to that second place Elite Falls impressed by winning the $250,000 Inglis Banner over 1000m at Moonee Valley.

Peter Moody will be trying to extend his impressive run this Autumn season by entering two of his chargers in the 2011 Silver Slipper.

Huegill has only the one start and finished third behind the current Golden Slipper favourite Sepoy in the Blue Diamond Prelude.

His other runner Golden Archer won the Gold Sovereign Stakes over 1200m in Tasmania at last start.

Given the results Peter Moody has notched up lately it would be no surprise to see one or both of his horses featuring towards the end.

Other nominations worth considering are Brett Cavanough’s Bossdon City which won on debut over this distance at Rosehill but missed out with a fifth placing in the Blue Diamond Preview.

One place ahead was Clinton McDonald’s Envious which used the Preview as his debut run.

Diamond To Pegasus (Tony Sergi) was victorious last start over this distance in the Canonbury Stakes at Randwick.

Finally Wild And Proud from the rejuvenated Gai Waterhouse came third behind Diamond To Pegasus at Randwick but was running on well to only be beaten half a length.

The barrier draw and confirmed final field for the 2011 Silver Slipper Stakes is due for release on Wednesday. Be sure to come back for all that information as well as race tips and betting odds.
