2011 Silver Slipper Stakes Final Field

February 23rd, 2011

The final field for the 2011 Silver Slipper will be made up of 13 horses representing 13 different trainers.

The $200,000 Group 2 race over 1100m will be Race 5 on the card at this Saturday’s Rosehill Gardens event.

Drawing barrier one was Al’s Magic Miss, a two-year-old filly trained by David Payne with only the one career start for one win over 1000m.

At the other end of the scale is Peter Moody’s now sole entry, after Golden Archer wasn’t part of the acceptances, in Huegill.

With an impressive third place finish behind Sepoy on debut in the Blue Diamond Preview, Huegill will have it all to do from barrier 13 this weekend.

Starting just inside him in gate 12 is the Gai Waterhouse charger Wild And Proud.

It will take a fantastic ride from apprentice jockey Tommy Berry but the stable is confident the horse is in good form for the race.

Satin Shoes probably faired best of the favourites and will jump from barrier six. Unbeaten from her two starts the middle gate still has her inside many of the other fancied runners.

In fact they will all line up next to each other with Diamond To Pegasus which won over this distance last start jumping from barrier seven, Elite Falls who finished second to Satin Shoes last start in the Widden Stakes is next from barrier eight and Brett Cavanough’s Bossdon City which has won over this distance on this track drawing gate nine.

With all the fancied runners alongside each other the tactical make-up of this race will be very interesting.

However it would be unwise to focus exclusively on the middle barrier battle. The draw has opened the way for a number of less hyped runners to have a real crack at the 2011 Silver Slipper Stakes.
