2013 Silver Slipper Stakes Attracts Golden Slipper Contenders

February 28th, 2013

A host of two-year-olds will begin their Golden Slipper campaigns when they run in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday March 2, 2013.

Included in the 2013 Silver Slipper Stakes is Charlie Boy, who will be having his second career run in the race.

His debut appearance resulted in a win in the $85,000 ATC Membership On Sale Now Handicap last November.

He has since competed in a barrier trail at Rosehill, which he won by a convincing three and a half lengths on February 19, 2013.

Jockey Glyn Schofield, who rode Charlie Boy in both his first start and his trial, believes the two-year-old has what it takes to win the 2013 Silver Slipper Stakes this weekend.

“Without a doubt he feels like a horse with a lot of ability,” Schofield said.

“At his debut, he was green and he didn’t really know how to get to the line.

“He seems to have learned. His trial was nice and he’s going well.”

While Schofield is confident Charlie Boy can win the 2013 Silver Slipper Stakes, jockey Peter Robl has his faith instilled in Never Can Tell.

“He’s going well and Saturday will give us more of a guide,” Robl said.

“If he’s not top shelf, well he’s not far off them.”

Never Can Tell has won both his previous race starts and has earned close to $110,000 in prize money.
