Law and Unencumbered Highlight 2014 Silver Slipper Final Field

February 27th, 2014

Just seven runners will line up on the 1100m track at Rosehill Gardens for the 2014 Group 2 Silver Slipper, including current leading chances for the 2014 Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) Law and Unencumbered.

After securing the Listed NSW Thoroughbred Breeders’ Plate (1000m) on October 5th on debut against a talented field that included Ghibellines and Mohave, Law returned to the track for the first time in 2014 with a near-three length victory in the Adaptra Handicap (1000m) and stamped his position as an early frontrunner for the Golden Slipper.

Having drawn the ideal barrier 3 for the 2014 Silver Slipper this weekend, Law’s claims received an even greater boost earlier this week when in-form jockey Nash Rawiller was confirmed to maintain the ride on the exciting son of Denman.

Unencumbered has stamped his claims not only as a leading contender for the Golden Slipper, but also as one of the country’s most exciting prospects after winning five of six starts to date including the Group 3 McLachlan Stakes (1200m) and $2 million Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1200m) most recently.

Currently featured at a quote just beyond that of Blue Diamond Stakes Champion Earthquake for the Golden Slipper, Unencumbered is in prime position to continue his incredible run of form in the 2013 Silver Slipper having drawn barrier 2.

Also included in the final field for the 2014 Silver Slipper is talented Team Hawkes-trained filly Mossfun.

Mossfun debuted in the Inglis Nursery 2.y.o Open (1000m) on December 5th, managing an incredible last-ditch sprint to beat Dual Star by a nose.

Fresh off the back of her strong win over Ygritte and Twirl in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) first-up on February 15th, the Hawkes’ are confident of Mossfun continuing her so-far perfect career start in the Silver Slipper, despite drawing the wide barrier.

Lining up beside Mossfun in barrier 6, Risen From Doubt will feature in just his second race start to date in the 2014 Silver Slipper.

Managing to comfortably overcome a talented field that included Jabali and Boomwaa in that preceding event; the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) on October 5th, Risen From Doubt is undoubtedly the unknown quantity for trainer Tony McEvoy heading into the 2014 Silver Slipper.

Paul Perry-trained Modoc (barrier 5), Hampton Court (barrier 4) and Press Report (barrier 1) have also been included in the final field for the 2014 Group 2 Silver Slipper. is currently offering the best odds on all Rosehill Gardens races this weekend, including the Silver Slipper!
