Godolphin runner Astern has more than stamped himself as one to watch through a short racing career so far and currently figures as clear $1.70 favourite in 2016 Silver Slipper Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au.

Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, Astern jumped from the gates well in the Surf Meets Turf Plate (1000m) in December, receiving a good run in transit before mustering a strong turn of foot to hit the line close to three lengths in the clear of closest rival Niccolance.

Allocated barrier 5, the Medaglia D’oro colt has been confirmed to be partnered by leading hoop Hugh Bowman in the 2016 Silver Slipper.

Defcon is yet to herald much interest in 2016 Silver Slipper Stakes betting markets but remains sole occupant of the second line at a quote of $3.30 for success.

Another colt who impressed in trials prior to his competitive debut, Defcon was unlucky to be hampered for a run and caught wide for much of the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) on January 30th but displayed an impressive late turn of foot to finish a close second.

Blake Shinn has been booked to take the ride on the son of Choisir in the Silver Slipper, who may require luck in transit after drawing the outside barrier.

Interestingly figuring as the only other runner currently available at Silver Slipper odds of less-than $10, Mount Panorama has continued to improvement noticeably in each appearance at the races and is worth consideration for a bet at generous $8 for success.

Debuting for sixth in a Randwick minor over 1100m on January 16th, the Sebring colt kicked well late to finish third in the Canonbury Stakes last time out.

King Of War represents great value at $11 for success in Silver Slipper Stakes betting markets while Rather Sweet ($26), Pittsburgh ($31) and Rafha’s Choice ($81) are rated virtually no chance of success.
